Umbrella Chaperone

This afternoon, I ventured out on a mission to acquire a bagel. No sooner had I past the point of no return between my college house and Dunkin' Donuts, precipitation began to fall.

Too late to turn back, I pressed on, the need of a bagel surpassing the inconvenience of getting wet. Fifteen minutes later, three things happened (1) I walked back into the foyer of my college house (2) The heavens opened wider and began unleashing droves of rain (3) I finished said bagel.

Feeling content due to the latter, a brilliant idea struck me. Instead of studying this afternoon, I would become an Umbrella Chaperone. I spotted my 'fare,' Tiffany, as I was leaving Au Bon Pain, waiting for the rain to stop.

"Would you like a ride?"

My passenger directed me to her destination, but alas we encountered an obstacle: the walkwaybeing ominously aflood a depth of two inches. It was traversed by cleverly balancing whilst walking backwards along a raised kerb to maintain umbrella cover.

Upon arrival she paid her fare (a smile) and it was time to clock off for the day (the chauffer's shoes were soggy).

If you've 10 minutes to spare and you spot a grim face in the rain, umbrella chaperoning is a good way to distract yourself from mundane responsibilities and to brighten someone's day.
