Drummer Man

Yesterday housemate Will and I were running around the city, being completely bratty as we sat outside the state library eating some of the four dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts we had procured. We noticed a less well-off man sitting on the corner playing various buckets and other things as a drum set. Inspirational. People were generally ignoring him though, which was sad.
We ran over and I gave him a doughnut, and told him he was doing a great job.

Not very wonderful, but it's a start.

Mark

Whilst on a walk this evening, I was stopped my Mark, a homeless man of about fifty, with white/grey hair and a wry smile that was masking grief. We shook hands and he told me his story - the snippets I'd got were that he had somehow ended up in Philadelphia, four hours away from where he 'lived,' was hungry and just wanted to get home.

I offered to buy him something for dinner at the nearby McDonalds, an offer which he declined; saying he'd rather money so he could buy a ticket for the train home. "I promise you I will spend it on a ticket." Well aware that I often misplaced trust, I err on the side of compassion, and so gave him $10, wishing him a safe journey home. "Thanks, you'll be in my prayers tonight." - as will you my friend.

Pity The Fool

Tomorrow another couple of bizarre index cards will be adhered to walls.

There have been many despairing over the pressures of academic and social life at Penn, so the first is a quote by Mr. T on adversity, which is an inspiringly simple truth.

Two nights ago I found myself sitting on front of a television for the first time in a month - to watch Grey's Anatomy so I could perhaps identify why it had such an obsessive cult following. Needless to say I was somewhat...no...mortally underwhelmed. Disparagement is on the menu:
